Dynamic mapping

Image: Dynamic Mapping
ZONE4 was asked to developed a mapping solution for Tourism Queensland, the application we built allows for the plotting (via longitude and latitude co-ordinates) of markers displayed on a map of Queensland. These markers allow the user to identify tourist business and services in the desired area. The user can search and filter the results according to a number of criteria. For example show me all the hotels at Noosa with a swimming pool.

The map gives the user the ability to freely drag zoom and explore Queensland while accessing data on tourist services directly through the map. It has been estimated to be three phone books worth of information in a mapping solution that is designed to be used across multiple sites and is totally scalable via HTML code only.

The maps themselves are made up of dynamic and static elements the static maps are based on HEMA maps. The maps have been extensively modified to allow users to turn on and off various features including minor town names and geographic featuires. The static maps combine a full Queensland view with specific regional maps also from HEMA.

We have developed a process that allows us to compensate for the distortion in the base cartography allowing accurate plotting of points.

The dynamic components of the maps allow users to sort and filter the points of interest. For example show me all the motels that have a swimming pool in the Cairns region.
